Seeing Differently: Faith in the everyday

Sat 22nd March 2025 - 9.30am to 3.30pm

at St Michael’s Church, Teignmouth. TQ14 8TB

Learning from St Clare and St Francis of Assisi

How can saints 800 years ago seem so relevant to our world today? With stories of how Francis and Clare gave themselves to God, we explore how they made every day holy. Set free by giving up wealth and embracing a simple life among the poor, they honoured God in all creatures, and all creation, from Brother Sun to Sister Water.

They felt God’s love, as if actually alongside Jesus like the first disciples. They captured the imagination of ordinary people and rulers alike, finding holiness in the everyday rhythms of life They were set alight in prayerful contemplation and joyful encounters. They were strengthened and joyful in suffering, and many were inspired to follow them.

The day will be led by Rev Paul Smedley, a member of the Anglican Franciscans and part of the Haldon Mission Team, as well as at St John Waterloo in London.

There will be short talks, prayer and silence - with the chance to talk together in lunch and break times and to walk on the sea front. We will gather at 9:30am for refreshments, with lunch at around 12:45pm, ending with the Eucharist at 2:45pm.
