For various reasons, from August, the Open the Book Team will no longer be affiliated to Open the Book organised by The Bible Society, and will therefore now be known as Open the Bible. We will continue to do go into schools to take assemblies but being independent of Open The Book will allow us to be more creative with our assembly format.
However many of our members have been doing this valuable work for several years and some would like to step away and concentrate on other areas of ministry. This is leaving us with a much smaller team and we if we are to continue this much appreciated work we need to recruit new members.
We currently go into Bishopsteighton and Shaldon Primary schools once each term, as most of our members are from these 2 parishes. We would love to extend our ministry to schools in Teignmouth, who have expressed an interest in our leading assemblies, but cannot do this without further helpers.
At present we go into school on a Thursday and Friday afternoons, and rehearse our assembly on the preceding Wednesday. Helpers do not need to be available for every date as we know people have many other commitments. If you feel that you can help with this outreach to children please contact either Lesley Heffer
