St Nectan's Church was named after the Devon Saint St Nectan. St Nectan was holy man who came to Devon from Wales and lived a hermit’s life in the Hartland Forest. The legend is that In 510AD St Nectan chased after thieves who had stolen his cattle but unfortunately they cut off his head in the argument. He then picked up his own head and walked home to collapse and die (which was quite an impressive feat). It is said that wherever his blood fell, foxgloves grew. 17th June is the Feast Day of St Nectan.
