St James 200 Fun Day

2021 marks 200 years since the Norman nave of St James' Church was demolished and replaced with the present, octagonal building. The church was rededicated on 11 September 1821 and we are planning to hold a Fun Day on 11 September 2021 for all to celebrate the occasion.   We shall have the Mayor and Town Crier on hand to open the proceedings and then plenty of entertainment, including live music in the church, Uncle Tacko's flea circus, the Back Beach Boyz, story-telling, bell ringing, Teignmouth Players and a super mega barbecue.

This is not a fund raiser, it's a celebration but, as it takes place on the same day as Ride and Stride, all profits from the sale of teas, coffees, cakes, pasties and sausage rolls will be donated to Devon Historic Churches.

We are running Art Workshops on 7 and 14 August. At the centre of our Fun Day in September will be an historic timeline banner, illustrating events that have been witnessed by the tower of St James' since the church was first dedicated in the 13th century. The illustrations will be provided by local people like you at free art/craft workshops in the church from 10.30-12.30 on Saturdays 7 and 14 August. No need to book and all are welcome.

We also want your memories of the church. Were you married in St James' Were your parents married there? How about grandparents? We'd love to hear from you with memories, photos (copies only, please) and information about your connection to West Teignmouth's church so we can create a display - please contact This email address is being protected from spambots.
