Back in 1980 the Revd Arthur Rose requested the assistance of Mrs Doris Rose and her team of ladies to create tapestry kneelers for use at St James Church.  Many families from across Teignmouth responded to this request and we have been blessed over many years by having these kneelers in church. Now in 2023, we are working towards carrying out changes to the church which will include reseating the nave. As a result there will be fewer seats in regular use, and so a lower requirement for kneelers.

At St James’ Parish Church we are looking forward to becoming a vibrant Christian Community Hub serving our local community, and the wider parish. We are hoping to that alterations will start soon to make the building more accessible and more suitable for greater community use, whilst retaining its primary purpose as a Christian church.

Rather than simply destroy any surplus kneelers, the PCC would like to invite each of the families who contributed to the 1980 project to reclaim their family kneelers.

Some families have already reclaimed their kneelers, and we would like to extend the invitation to other members of the community who have had an association with St James Parish Church in the past by providing these kneelers, to reclaim their family kneelers before the renovation work to the internal Nave area of the building commences. Any kneelers that are not claimed will be stored until it is known exactly how many will be required for the reseated church.

Please contact our churchwarden Anna Venables if your family or relatives provided tapestry kneelers in the period from 1980 onwards, and you are wanting to reclaim them before renovation work commences.

Thank you.
