First Things First

Prayer is the foundation of everything we do.

Our monthly prayer meeting is an informal setting in which we can come together to pray for members of our congregations, the ministry of the Haldon Team and broader church and world issues. These meetings will take place on the first day of each month and, where possible, in different venues across the team.

To join the next meeting (which this coming month will be part of Evening Prayer), please click this link on: Tuesday 1st June at 5pm via Zoom. Everyone is welcome, regardless of which church community you belong to. It will last about 30-45 minutes.

Open for Personal Prayer

Four of our churches are open for personal prayer and reflection:

  • St Michael’s, Teignmouth is open 10am-12 noon on Tuesdays & Saturdays
  • St Mary’s, Ideford is open 10am-4pm on Wednesdays and 2nd & 4th Sundays
  • St John’s, Bishopsteignton is open 10am-12 noon on Wednesdays
  • St Nectan's, Ashcombe is open 9.30am-3pm on Wednesdays & 1st & 3rd Saturdays

Whichever church you normally go to, you are welcome to go in to any of these churches at the days and times shown. You will be able to go in to the building to sit in the quiet and stillness of the church to pray and reflect as you wish. When coming to church, please wear a face covering. You will also be asked to maintain social disatncing, sanitise your hands and provide contact details for NHS Test and Trace.

We have also created a Quiet Space (with resources to use) in the churchyard at St John’s in Bishopsteignton which is open all day, every day for anyone to use.

Safeguarding in the Haldon Mission Community

The Haldon Team is committed to the safeguarding of everybody, and especially to ensuring the safety and protection of all children and adults experiencing or at risk of abuse or neglect - who are involved in any church activities. The Safeguarding Lead for The Haldon Team is Susan Harvey and concerns can be notified to her on 01626 770627

Any matters of concern about a child or vulnerable adult should be always be reported. You can contact one of the agencies listed on the information that can be downloaded here (PDF). The term safeguarding is used to define actions taken to protect and save vulnerable people and groups from harm. This may come from adults or other groups or other children. A vulnerable adult is a person who may be unable to protect themselves or take care of themselves against harm, exploitation, neglect or abuse. When safeguarding children - a child is anyone under the age of 18. Therefore safeguarding children is about protecting all those under 18 from harm, exploitation, neglect or abuse. Schools, charities, hospitals and care homes, along with other sectors - including churches must all take responsibility to safeguard those around them.

Here is our Safeguarding Policy Statement (PDF). You can also read our Lone Working Policy (PDF) and Use of Social Media Guidelines (PDF).

If you have a concern about the safety of someone or the actions of someone working with children or vulnerable adults, please speak to someone:
