The Art of the Possible

Christmas hasn’t been cancelled – but it will look different this year.

While it is highly unlikely that we will have carol services in our churches, we are putting plans together for a number of different ways of celebrating both Advent and Christmas.

The following services and events are being planned but are subject to change in the light of government and Church of England guidance. Plans have also had to take in to account the 72-hour rule concerning the use and cleaning of seating, hence why some churches will not be available to use on certain days and it will be necessary to book a place at some services as shown below. Special Events

Although the Quiet Afternoon was cancelled because of the limited response to it, we still hope to run the Advent Discussion groups December 2nd & 16th 7.30-9pm by zoom, including Compline on both occasions. Advent Procession of Light – bring a torch or lantern and walk through the streets of Teignmouth to celebrate the light shining in the darkness. This will take place as soon as possible after lockdown is lifted. Please revisit this page to check.

Advent Windows in Ideford – take a walk around the village and find a new window each day from 1 December culminating in the final one at St Mary’s Church on Christmas Eve. Christmas raffle also available. Please revisit this page to check.

 We hope to have a contemplative, Taize style service on a Sunday evening during Advent at St Michael's. Please revisit this page to check.

Walk Through Nativity on Sat 19th December, 4-6pm at The Old Commercial Inn in Bishopsteignton.          

Walk Through Carols, Crib & Christingle on Christmas Eve, 2-4pm at St Michael's, Teignmouth

Online   

Our online services continue to take place every Sunday.

On Advent Sunday (29 Nov) a special online service on the theme of light will be available.

Linking in with a national initiative from The Children’s Society, a special Christingle service will be available on Sunday 13 December.

Also on the 13 December, the Annual RNLI Carol Service will be available on our website from 4pm. This service will feature readings and pre-recorded carols.

South West Carols takes place online on 5th and 6th December at 7pm at www.southwestcarols.com

Christmas Cards – due to the possible risk of contamination, you are asked not to bring Christmas Cards for other people into our church buildings.
